Therapeutic Body Work & Massage
With a wide spectrum of modalities focused on your specific needs, each session is individualized taking into consideration your posture, current movement patterns, biomechanics, sleep, stress management, lifestyle habits, nutrition, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
Therapeutic Bodywork integrates necessary massage therapy techniques, instruments and tools, diaphragmatic breathing techniques and cupping therapy to address acute and chronic soft tissue concerns, pain management, calming the nervous system, prevention, injury recovery, rehabilitation, and biomechanical maintenance.
We recognize that there is a biopsychosocial model of pain that many people exhibit and will guide you to the right professionals to start the healing process that has affected your musculoskeletal system.
Therapeutic bodywork modalities
Pediatric Sports Massage Therapy - children who are active in athletics (ballet, gymnastics, dance, golf, baseball, volleyball, etc); adolescent menarche discomfort; ADHD.
Deep Tissue - Deep, slow, intricate strokes for chronic tension, pain and to increase range of motion.
Myofascial Release - Alleviates pain in the skeletal muscle immobility. Similar to deep tissue, only stretching the tissue as well and using movement to address myofascial meridian imbalances.
Neuromuscular Triggerpoint - Aims to alleviate chronic muscle and nervous system disorders. Used to fix trigger points, circulation, nerve compression, postural problems and repetitive movement injuries.
Structural Integration - based on the work of biochemist Dr. Ida Rolf, that manipulates the fascia to lengthen, stretch and soften thickened fascial tissue to restore postural balance and bring back ease of movement and postural balance.
Sports Massage - used pre and post events or for weekend warriors. Prepares the athlete for performance, drains away fatigue, reduces swelling and muscle tension, promotes flexibility and to prevent injuries. Sports massage may need multiple sessions for optimal results.
Cupping Therapy - (plastic used stationary or with movement; glass for stationary, gliding or wet; silicone used with movement) draws fresh blood to areas of dysfunction within the body. By promoting healthy blood flow, cell metabolism and repair is increased as well as oxygenated blood. The suction softens rigid soft tissue and adhesions which helps normalize muscle tissue, hydrates joints, lifts and lengthens fascia and releases entrapment of peripheral nerves.
PNF stretching (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) -stretching and activation of the muscle group being targeted in order to achieve maximum static flexibility.
Diaphragmatic Breathing (deep breathing) - breathing technique using the diaphragm muscle to contract promoting a lateral expansion of the ribs and extension in the trunk whilst reducing HR and blood pressure and allowing deeper stretches and muscle tension release. Used in synchrony with movements and manual therapy.
Percussion - activating the parasympathetic nervous system, deeper muscles, and relaxation.
IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization) - myofascial technique to break down fascial restrictions and increase ROM, blood flow and therefore oxygen which promotes healing with stainless steel tools.
Moxibustion - burning of a plant called mugwort to promote deep heat (studies show it reaches cellular level) to cold/stagnate areas in the body that manifests as pain, arthritis, deep pelvic floor and digestive issues.
Auricular Seed Therapy - form of auriculotherapy that uses vaccaria seeds attached to an adhesive that stimulates acupressure points on the ear that stimulates pressure points that may help to relieve mental disorders like anxiety, depression and PTSD.
